Better Meet the Needs of Working Adult Learners

Working adult learners represent a large and growing population in higher education. Yet, many colleges and universities still struggle to build the right structures and systems to support the success of these individuals. To better understand these challenges, Guild partnered with Higher Ed Dive to survey 233 higher education administrators to understand their perceptions of how well their institutions are supporting working adult learners, see where there is room to improve, and recommend solutions.

The three major challenges that institutions face in effectively serving working adult learners include: 

  • Challenge 1: Financial supports designed for working adult learners have not been broadly implemented
  • Challenge 2: Institutions fall short when it comes to wraparound supports to ensure student success
  • Challenge 3: Institutions are not helping working adult learners connect with careers to the extent they could
