Getting Working Adults to College Success

White Paper

Understanding the “Why” for Working Adults.

One key to having working adults enroll and successfully complete higher education is to make sure students enroll to step it up, not just to do what's expected of them," writes Michael B. Horn.

There are 140 million full-time working adults, millions of whom have some college credit but no degree or have an associate's degree but no bachelor's, and at least 60 million of these adults work at companies that provide education benefits to assist with or reimburse their employees for their tuition payments in an effort to help upskill or retain the workforce.

Despite the benefit of having their education sponsored by an employer through tuition reimbursement or tuition assistance, fewer than 2% of eligible employees participate in education benefits programs sponsored by their employers.

This white paper explores the motivations that drive working adults to college, identifying the key characteristics of a student-centered online program that promotes success in college.
